DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking a relational leader to shepherd the children (ages 0–10) of our church. The ideal candidate is a "builder" who can recruit, train, and encourage a team of volunteers to create a safe, biblically grounded environment. This role requires a strong emphasis on Special Events that serve as open doors to our broader community.

Reports To: Senior Pastor

Status: Part-Time (20 Hours/Week*)

Schedule: Sundays, Tuesday morning staff meetings and Wednesday evenings required; remaining hours flexible.

*Note: Hours will temporarily increase during the VBS preparation and the VBS program week, as well as during the Christmas Pageant season and around Easter.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Special Events & Community Outreach (30%)

  • Execute Major Annual Events: Plan, staff, and execute the following three "anchor" events which are central to our church calendar:

  • Easter in the Park: An outdoor family celebration put on by the community (egg hunt, games, outreach) connected to our Easter services.

  • Vacation Bible School (VBS): A one-week summer program designed to engage neighborhood children. (Note: This event requires additional preparation hours).

  • Community Bridge-Building: Develop 1–2 additional "low-barrier" events annually to attract unchurched families (e.g., Parents' Night Out, Fall "Trunk or Treat").

2. Volunteer Leadership (30%)

  • Recruit: Actively invite church members to serve, ensuring safe adult-to-child ratios for both Sunday and Wednesday programs.

  • Schedule: Manage the monthly volunteer rotation and handle last-minute substitutions.

3. Weekly Programming: Sundays & Wednesdays (25%)

  • Sunday Mornings: Oversee the Check-In/Check-Out process, prepare classrooms/lessons prior to service start time, and serve as the primary host for visiting families.

  • Wednesday Nights: Lead or oversee the midweek children's program (e.g., discipleship, games, crafts), ensuring it is distinct from Sunday mornings and engaging for children after a long school day.

4. Safety & Administration (15%)

  • Child Protection: Maintain strict adherence to the Child Protection Policy, ensuring every volunteer has a cleared background check on file.

  • Attendance Tracking: Track attendance for both Sunday and Wednesday groups to identify growth trends.
