Helping People Find and Follow Jesus Christ

Purpose

ShoreLife Church Constitution

TO HELP PEOPLE FIND AND FOLLOW JESUS CHRIST

There is a five-fold purpose which will enable ShoreLife to fulfill the mission that God has given us to accomplish:

WorshipYou were planned for God’s pleasure. God did not need to create you, but He chose to create you for His own enjoyment.  You exist for His benefit, His glory, His purpose, and His delight.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”
Mark 12:30 NIV

FellowshipYou were formed for God’s family.  God wants a family, and He created you to be a part of it.  The entire Bible is the story of God building a family who will love Him, honor Him, and reign with Him forever.  Because God is love, He treasures relationships.

“So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”
Romans 12:5 NIV

DiscipleshipYou were created to become like Christ.  From the very beginning, God’s plan has been to make you like His Son, Jesus.  This is your destiny and the third purpose of your life.  In all of creation only human beings are made in God’s image.  This is a great privilege and gives us dignity.

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 2:5 NIV

MinistryYou were shaped for serving God.  You were put on earth to make a contribution.  You were not created just to consume resources—to eat, breathe, and take up space.  God designed you to make a difference with your life.

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others.”
1 Peter 4:10 NIV

MissionYou were made for a mission.  God is at work in the world, and He wants you to join Him.  This assignment is called your mission.  God wants you to have both a ministry in the Body of Christ and a mission in the world.  Your ministry is your service to believers, and your mission is your service to unbelievers.  Fulfilling your mission in the world is God’s fifth purpose for your life.

“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.”
Colossians 4:5 NIV
